History of Pawnbroking

Pawnbroking is one of the oldest financial institutions. In fact, you can trace pawnbroking as far back as 3,000 years to Ancient China. Places like ours have served as financial resources to fund business ventures and as a source of capital for folks in times of need for ages. In fact, Saint Nicholas (that’s good ole’ Santa Claus) is the patron saint of pawnbroking because of his help to the poor.

The sharp-lookin’ universal pawnbroker’s symbol is three spheres suspended from a bar, which came from the Medici family of Florence, Italy. Pawnshop banking originated there, in the province of Lombardy. Following the success of the pawnbroking business, the symbol was quickly adopted by other merchants – like us! – who served the same purpose.
